FVSU FOOTBALL SIGNS 8 ON NATIONAL SIGNING DAY
Fort Valley, GA. – Fort Valley State University Head Football Coach
Donald Pittman announced the signing of eight (8) players to National Letters of Intent to play for the Wildcats in 2013.
“I am thrilled with the prospects who have decided to become part of the FVSU Football Family, said Pittman. We were very targeted in our recruiting effort this off season and we feel like we have recruited some of the best student-athletes who will make significant contributions on the field as well as in the classroom. I am particularly excited because I believe that most of these players have the ability to be immediate impact players for us this coming season. My recruiting staff did an outstanding job.”
To address their offensive concerns the Wildcats signed three offensive tackles and two receivers. Anfernee Chandler,
Brian Cornish, and
Albert Greenwood are the newest members of the FVSU offensive line. Chandler, 6'3, 315lbs is a graduate of Lowndes High School in Valdosta, Georgia. The 6'3, 300lbs Cornish graduated from Warner Robins High School.
Albert Greenwood, 6'3, 220lbs, attended T.W. Josey High School in Augusta, Georgia. All three will via for playing time with the graduation of
David Garbo and
Quinton Johnson.
According to Pittman, “These guys are prototypes who should fit perfectly into our run and pass blocking schemes. They are big and agile and that's what required of our men upfront.”
Donald Quarles and
Renard Williams enter the Wildcat Program with a big challenge ahead of them. With the departure of All-SIAC Wide Receiver
Christopher Slaughter; tight end
Tony Davis; and wide out
Eric McCree, Quarles and Williams could wind up with a starting role on opening day.
Williams, 6'3, 200lbs and a native of Fort Valley graduated from Peach County High School. Quarles, who is also 6'3, 200lbs, hails from Augusta, Georgia and attended the Academy of Richmond County.
Defensively, the Wildcats signed
Samuel Washington from Lowndes High School as a defensive end. With the graduation of
Alex Cook, the 6'2, 220lb Washington will contend with a talented group of existing players for snap time. The same is true for recruit Quantavius Cheatam. At 6'3, 300lbs and from Augusta, Georgia, Cheatam will join returner
Joe Vaka at the defensive tackle position.
“Our defense will be a lot stronger with the addition of Washington and Cheatam. Washington is quick and extremely aggressive and Cheatam plays stout on the inside, said Pittman. If their adjustment from high school to college play goes as anticipated, both will be impact players.”
