Wildcat Coach to be inducted into Hall of Fame at Alma Mater

Fort Valley State University (FVSU) Defensive Line Coach Terry Jones has been selected for induction into the Athletic Hall of Fame of his alma mater, the University of Central Oklahoma (UCO). Jones, a 1979 graduate, will join eight other UCO former athletes in the induction ceremony which takes place on October 15, 2010 on the UCO campus.
Widely regarded as one of the best defensive linemen in the school's history, Jones was a two-year starter at defensive tackle (1978 & 79). In his senior year, the UCO Broncos finished with an 11-2 record and as the NAIA national runner-up.
In his two seasons of play at UCO, Jones tallied 200 tackles; two fumble recoveries; and a blocked kick. In his senior season, he received NAIA All-American Honors and was named to the first-team of All-District Nine. As a junior, he was selected to the All-District Nine Team and earned NAIA Player of the Week honors after an 18 tackle performance against Texas A&M-Commerce. In 2005, Jones was named to UCO's All-Century Football Team.
In 1980, Jones was drafted in the 11th round of the National Football League (NFL) by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. After his NFL experience, Jones returned to his alma mater to coach the defensive line. With his leadership the Broncos won the NAIA National Championship in 1982.
When asked about his induction into the UCO Athletics Hall of Fame, Jones replied, “It's the icing on the cake. I would have never imagined that football would have taken me this far in life. What I am most appreciative of is all the valuable lessons I learned from participating in the sport.”
