FVSU ATHLETICS TO HOST “NIGHT OF CHAMPIONS”
DURING THE FVSU-ASU BASKETBALL GAME
FORT VALLEY, GA (February 1, 2010) – The Fort Valley State University (FVSU) Department of Athletics is pleased to announce that it will host a “Night of Champions” on February 13, 2010 during the evening of basketball between the FVSU Wildcats and conference rival the Golden Rams of Albany State University (ASU). The “Night of Champions” will be highlighted by the formal recognition of FVSU team and individual champions during the 2009 athletic season. Last year’s FVSU champions include the Lady Wildcats Basketball Team (Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Women’s Basketball Champions); the Wildcats Men’s Tennis Team (SIAC Regular Season Champions); and FVSU Track & Field Triple Jumper Antoinette Oglesby (NCAA Outdoor Division II National Champion).
The “Night of Champions” program will be held at halftime of the televised men’s basketball game and will include the unveiling of championship banners for the Lady Wildcats Basketball Team and the FVSU Men’s Tennis Team. The program will also include a special presentation to national track & field champion Antoinette Oglesby.
In addition to the “Night of Champions” program, fans will have the opportunity to win prizes throughout the night as they watch the rematches between the Wildcats and Golden Rams teams. In addition to the on-court basketball battle, there will also be a post-game dance competition between dance groups from FVSU and ASU.
According to Athletics Director Wilson Gosier, “The Nights of Champions is a unique opportunity to invite the fans and supporters of Wildcat Athletics to be a part of the university’s formal recognition ceremony for the student-athletes and coaches whose commitment to excellence is the foundation for building champions at Fort Valley State University. With that in mind, I invite the entire FVSU community to join us for this celebration of champions.”
Ticket prices for the “Night of Champions” and Wildcats Basketball are $7 general admission; $5 for military personnel with identification; free for children under the age of 10 years; and free for FVSU students with identification. The women's game starts at 6 p.m. with the men to follow.
