In a news release dated January 20th, Don Hansen's Football Gazette released its 2009 NCAA Division II All-Super Region Two Squad. Four players from the Wildcats of Fort Valley State University (FVSU) were selected to the team. Junior return specialist An'thon Harris was named to the second team offense. Junior tight end Rodriquez Render and senior center Colin Cordell were named to the third team offense while junior defensive back Dionte Dinkins was named to the third team defensive squad.
Harris was the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) leading punt returner for the 2009 season. On 24 punt returns, Harris had a total of 318 yards with an average return of 13.2 yards. His longest punt return of the year was a 54-yard effort.
Rodriquez Render finished fourth in the SIAC in receptions per game. He averaged 3.9 catches per game and had a total of 418 yards on 39 receptions. He averaged 10.7 yards per catch and had three touchdown receptions during the season.
Colin Cordell was named to the First Team All-SIAC Team for his work from the center position. Cordell was twice named SIAC Offensive Lineman of the Week. In addition to this post-season honor, he also participated in the 2009 Russell Athletic HBCU Bowl.
Defensive back Dionte Dinkins earned Second Team All-SIAC honors for his performance as a cornerback. Routinely pitted against the opponent's best receiver, Dinkins became widely respected for his coverage ability. He finished with four interceptions and eight pass break ups this season.
With his selection to the second team defensive squad, An'thon Harris will advance to the national ballot from which the 2009 NCAA Division II Football Gazette All-America Team will be named.
A total of 93 players earned Football Gazette All-Super Region Two honors.
