The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) released its 2009 Softball All-Conference team, and the Fort Valley State University Lady Wildcats had some players named to the squad.
Making the first team as a utility player is Tameira Brown. Brown, a 5’9 junior from Marietta, hit .368 on the season with two home runs and 37 RBI’s. Joining Tameira on the first team is outfielder Krystal Hughes. Hughes, a 5’3 sophomore from Macon, hit four home runs with 22 RBI’s and was 18-21 in stolen bases. Brown was also named to the second team at first and joining her on the second unit was Kimberly Hughes (Krystal’s twin sister) who was selected as an outfielder.
Jazmine McDaniel, a sophomore shortstop from Jonesboro, was named to the all-academic team. McDaniel, an Early Childhood Education major, had the highest GPA of all the academic honorees with a 3.94. On the field, McDaniel is batting .329 with one home run and 32 RBI’s.
The Lady Wildcats are in action this week at the SIAC Softball Championships in Columbus, Ga.
