Cordell & Jackson to represent FVSU in Russell Athletic HBCU Bowl
By: FVSU Office of Sports Information
The Fort Valley State University (FVSU) Department of Athletics is pleased to announce that senior offensive lineman Collin Cordell and senior defensive end Robert Jackson have been invited to participate in the inaugural Russell Athletic HBCU Bowl on Saturday, December 19th at 2 p.m. in the Cramton Bowl in Montgomery, Alabama. The game is a match up of all-star players from the Southwest Athletic Conference (SWAC) and the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) pitted against stellar players from the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) and the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (CIAA).
The HBCU Bowl is an opportunity for collegiate football players to showcase their talent before a captive audience of professional football scouts, general managers, and personnel directors.
The selection of Cordell and Jackson to the Russell Athletic HBCU Bowl is just reward for outstanding performances this past football season. Cordell was named to the First Team All-SIAC Team for his work from the center position. The 6'5, 345lbs Cordell was twice named SIAC Offensive Lineman of the Week.
Jackson, who was named Second Team All-SIAC, finished 13th in the conference in tackles for loss with 10.5. The season total for Jackson (6'4, 265lbs) is particularly impressive given that he began the season second on the FVSU depth chart and only started the last five games of the 2009 season.
