Fort Valley State University Wildcats (6-4, 5-3 SIAC) ranked 5th in the SIAC & 10TH in NCAA Division II Super Regional Two

 

Albany State University Golden Rams (8-1, 7-1 SIAC) ranked 2nd in the SIAC & 3rd in NCAA Division II Super Regional Two

Last Meeting: 

Before a crowd of 22,331, The Golden Rams won last year’s Fountain City Classic 31-7. 

 

The Series: 

Series dates back to 1945.  FVSU leads overall series 31-28-3.  The Fountain Classic series stands at 15-4-0 in favor of Albany State University.  The Golden Rams have won the last six meetings.

Fort Valley State University:

 

In their 2009 homecoming game, the Wildcats defeated the Thorobreds of Kentucky State University 20-13.  It was the final home game of the season for FVSU. 

 

The win was highlighted by An’thon Harris’ five receptions, two of which were for touchdowns.  In addition, he returned five punts for 92 yards with the longest being 54 yards.  Tight end Rodriquez Render also finished with five receptions for FVSU. During the game, quarterback Nathaniel Samas completed passes to five different Wildcat receivers on his way to a 15 of 31 performance totaling 211 yards with three touchdowns. 

 

Junior defensive end Jason Thompson led the FVSU defensive effort.  Thompson was the game’s leading tackler with 13. The Dallas, Texas native also tallied one tackle for loss and one-half sack.

 

Albany State University

 

The Golden Rams defeated the Maroon Tigers of Morehouse College 30-12 in Albany, Georgia. 

 

The Coaches:

Fort Valley State University Head Coach Donald Pittman is in his first campaign as a head coach.  The Wildcats are 6-4 (5-3 in the SIAC) under Coach Pittman.  A graduate of Adams State University, Pittman is the former offensive coordinator for the Golden Rams of Albany State University.  He is a 1974 graduate of Adams State University and received his masters in counseling from Texas A&M University.

 

The Golden Rams are coached by Mike White.
